{"id":95,"date":"2026-02-21T15:13:04","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T11:43:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asgarzade.sitedar.com\/yasco\/en\/?p=95"},"modified":"2026-02-21T15:13:04","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T11:43:04","slug":"global-billet-wrap-markets-depressed-by-chinese-prices-lower-demand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yasco.org\/en\/global-billet-wrap-markets-depressed-by-chinese-prices-lower-demand\/","title":{"rendered":"GLOBAL BILLET WRAP: Markets depressed by Chinese prices, lower demand"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"text\">\n<p>Steel billet prices dropped in almost all markets last week, affected by falling finished steel prices in China and continued weak buying activity due to the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/yasco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Global-Billet-Wrap.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1044\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1044\" src=\"https:\/\/yasco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Global-Billet-Wrap-300x200.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/yasco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Global-Billet-Wrap-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/yasco.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Global-Billet-Wrap.jpg 465w\" alt=\"Global-Billet-Wrap\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>China<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Chinese billet market weakened last week, motivated by lower costs of raw materials, weaker demand for finished steel\u00a0and losses in the rebar futures markets early in the week, according to sources.<\/p>\n<p>An increase in billet inventories also added pressure to prices, along with the\u00a0approaching\u00a0wet season.<br \/>\nPrices fell significantly last\u00a0weekend and\u00a0at the beginning of\u00a0the week, reaching 2,950 yuan ($434) per tonne on Tuesday June 6.<br \/>\nBy the end of last week, the billet price had partially recovered to 2,990 yuan ($440) per tonne, as the paper market became stronger.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Southeast Asia<\/strong><br \/>\nIn Southeast Asia, buyers were\u00a0again\u00a0interested in material from China, after about three weeks out of the\u00a0market, as reduced prices in the country encouraged trading.<br \/>\nA booking in the Philippines was reported at $420 per tonne cfr Manila early in the week, while offers to Indonesia were heard at as low as $415 per tonne cfr.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrices from China suddenly started to drop,\u201d one buyer in Southeast Asia told Metal Bulletin on Tuesday.<br \/>\nTraders were again heard short selling Chinese material in the region, adding more downward pressure to prices.<br \/>\nBy the end of the week, traders were offering 150mm grade Q235\u00a0billet from China at close to $410 per tonne cfr in Indonesia, slightly lower than\u00a0at the beginning of last week.<br \/>\n\u201cThere are indeed offers at $410-415 [per tonne cfr], but people are hesitant to book,\u201d one Jakarta-based market participant said on Friday.<br \/>\nIn Indonesia, the market remained weak due to the Ramadan, and buyers were also waiting to see whether Chinese prices would drop any further.<\/p>\n<p>In the Philippines, offers for 120-130mm Chinese grade Q275 material\u00a0were around $420 per tonne cfr Manila late last week, but no deals were heard.<br \/>\nSources also heard offers of Russian 130-150mm\u00a0 5sp grade billet at $425 per tonne cfr Manila \u2013 equivalent to Q275. However, market participants\u00a0said a deal was unlikely due to the large number of offers\u00a0for Chinese material at lower prices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iran, Mena<\/strong><br \/>\nBillet offers from Iran to the UAE were at $410-415 per tonne cfr last week, but no deals were heard.
